I use meditation as an entry point to the paintingprosess. It is all about quieting the mind and releasing a more subtle information. A desire to find an alert presence in the layers and surface of the canvas. As if there was a luminous window into an open space within. A stillness, an energetic field of awareness.
The choice of colors are essential to me. It’s a subtile blending and multiple adjustments to make it connect. The thin layers of paint reflects a search for and experience with my inner light.
I aim to make the layers move in silence. Therefore, there are often vague nuances and tiny movement that the viewer has to look closely to discover. It requires the viewer`s own presence being able to fully discover these works.
The process is an escape and a way to bring myself back to what really matters at the same time. A resting of pure being in the light of consciousness.
Painting as meditation
Bio
I grew up I the northern parts of Norway. Surrounded by a wide landscape of mountains and ocean, with the northern light and borealis above me. The midnight sun in the summer and in winter, all the blue hours. I believe it has a great impact on how I experience myself in nature and life itself. From child I felt an endless connection to the universe, I saw myself among the stars with a strong sense of mystery.
My interest in philosophy, spirituality and the human psyche influences the artist pathway in me. Also working in the psychiatry field, almost half of my life has given me insights and wonder on the way.
